FIAT Gets Married

Fiat, Chrysler Group finalize union
Bringing an end to Chrysler Group and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne’s
nearly five-year quest to fully merge the two automakers, Fiat completed
its acquisition of the remaining 41.5 percent of Chrysler’s shares that were
owned by the UAW’s health care trust, the Detroit Free Press said.
Bloomberg said the deal sets the “stage for the Italian carmaker to form
a manufacturer with the scale to better challenge the biggest players in the
auto industry.” The story notes that the new company includes the U.S.
manufacturer’s Chrysler, Ram Truck, Dodge and Jeep® volume brands
along with the Italian automaker’s mass-market Fiat and Lancia brands
and the upscale Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Ferrari marques.
